Fuchsite is a green variety of muscovite (a mica) rich in chromium, where the chromium replaces some of the aluminum present in the muscovite molecule. It was named in honor of the German mineralogist Johann N. von Fuchs. Fuchsite can have a wonderful deep emerald-green color, capable of a brilliant sheen when the specimen is composed of small crystalline flakes, as is the case with this older specimen from the 1980s.
