Uvite is a variety of tourmaline, belonging to the cyclosilicate group, rich in calcium, magnesium, aluminum, and boron. It is generally distinguished by its dark green to brownish-green hues, sometimes almost black, and often occurs in prismatic crystals.
It mainly forms in metamorphic rocks rich in calcium and magnesium.
