Selenite is a variety of gypsum, from the sulfate group, composed of hydrated calcium sulfate (CaSO₄·2H₂O). It is distinguished by its transparent to translucent crystals, often colorless, white, or slightly tinted, with a pearly to vitreous luster. It mainly forms in sedimentary rocks and evaporitic deposits.
