Peridot (olivine)

Olivine is a group of silicate minerals composed primarily of magnesium and iron, with the general formula (Mg,Fe)₂SiO₄. It typically forms granular or prismatic crystals, ranging in color from olive green to yellowish-green, and is a major mineral of the Earth's mantle.

Peridot is the gemstone variety of olivine, generally rich in forsterite and fayalite. Its color ranges from yellow-green to olive green, with sufficient transparency and quality for use in jewelry. Olivine can also be present in certain meteorites, particularly chondrites and pallasites.
