Listwanite is not a single mineral but a hydrothermal alteration rock, formed by the transformation of ultramafic rocks rich in serpentine (such as serpentinites). It is mainly composed of carbonate (calcite, dolomite, magnesite), quartz, and serpentine minerals, sometimes with metallic minerals such as chromite, pyrite, or copper minerals.
It generally exhibits white, grey, beige, green, or brownish colors and often forms in fault zones associated with ophiolitic complexes.
