Jasper is an opaque variety of chalcedony, a microcrystalline form of quartz, primarily composed of silicon dioxide (SiO₂). Its wide range of colors — red, yellow, brown, green, blue, or multicolored — comes from the presence of mineral impurities such as iron or manganese oxides. It typically forms in sedimentary or volcanic rocks and can display magnificent natural patterns, such as bands, spots, or landscapes.
Among its most well-known varieties are red jasper, picture jasper, orbicular jasper (or ocean jasper), Dalmatian jasper, leopard jasper, bloodstone (heliotrope), yellow jasper, green jasper, kambaba jasper, and bumblebee jasper.
