Graphite is a mineral composed of pure carbon (C), belonging to the same chemical element as diamond, but with a totally different crystalline structure. With a color ranging from steel gray to black, it exhibits a metallic to submetallic luster and is characterized by its flaky texture and great softness. Formed primarily during the metamorphism of carbon-rich rocks, graphite is often associated with quartz, feldspar, or calcite.
Its crystals, lamellar aggregates, and natural forms are prized by collectors for their distinctive appearance and mineralogical interest.
